Interview and a Scion Captain

A comment to go with the picture first: A Scion Captain that I have worked on over about a months time. I put him into some terrain to get nice field-action feeling in the photo. Regarding the Scion box the current score is 2 down, 3 to go. And I also got myself some Eldar the other week... Oh well...

Onto the interview part of the topic headline. Tyler of Mengel Miniatures wrote me about 3 months ago if I would do an interview. The interview was published on his website last week and I really think he put down some good questions. So if you want to have a read, then head over to Tyler's website: Mengel Miniatures.

  1. Excellent. Thanks for the shout out :) I really dig the orange scheme. They no longer look like storm troopers to me, but some noble infantry from a Knight World to accompany your Knight. Very nice!

    1. Thanks Migs. With the tons of stuff going on at ironsleet I ought to link to the site at least once a month! Thanks for the words on the Scions. Yeah, I want them to be a kind of noble infantry or command unit. I really like the idea of worlds with feudal/knightly orders and style.

  2. The Stormtroopers are both great. As Migsula says, the complement your Knight perfectly. Look forward to seeing 3 more of them!

I really enjoyed the interview. I liked your point about focusing less on ultra-smooth blending, and more on experimentation and ideas. I find your recent work much more inspiring than a lot of stuff on CMON. It might be less technically refined, it's so expressive and conceptually interesting.

    1. Glad you liked the interview. I also look forward to getting onto those remaining 3 models. I think it would be cool with a banner among these. Half checked and half orange I guess...

  3. Seems like I've waited ages to see what you'd do next after the garden, it was well worth the wait. While I adore your painting it's the scenes that you set up that I enjoy the most, I love how in this photo you have the original trooper behind at the back. Quick question, I loved your little bound book you did last year, have you any left? And any chance there'll be a book 2 soon?

    1. Thanks. I am glad that the scene is appriciated out there. I really enjoy making these. This is also the reason for carefully pinning the gate for the Garden of Morr so that I can do small scenes with the gate open or closed as it fits the scene at hand.

The book has been and gone for now. Sorry. However, it was a fun venture and I currently have a few similar plans in my head. Need to do some decisions on that soon. Thanks for the reminder! :-)

  4. That is one great Scion Jakob! The colour scheme is brilliant - blue eyes and searchlight together with the orange and bronze is an excellent choice.

I especially love the bronze and orange on his chestplate - wonderful!
